Hometown Hero Outdoors recently hosted a guided fishing trip on Lake Livingston in Livingston, Texas, bringing veterans together for a day focused on connection, relaxation, and time on the water.
The trip marked a milestone for HHO, as it was the first event hosted by a new field staff member in the region. While one participant was unable to attend due to work obligations, two veterans — Wayne Arron and Adam Carranza — made the trip and spent the day fishing alongside their guide.
A Day on Lake Livingston
The group fished with Captain Dave of Palmetto Guide Service, who provided expert guidance throughout the day. Although fishing conditions were slower than expected, the group remained persistent and made the most of their time on the water.
By the end of the trip, the group had successfully landed and kept:
- 28 catfish
- 2 white bass
The experience highlighted the unpredictable nature of fishing while reinforcing the value of patience, teamwork, and shared time outdoors.
More Than Just Fishing
While the catch was a success, the true impact of the trip came from the time spent together. For the participating veterans, the opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities and connect in a relaxed environment proved meaningful.
Trips like this reflect the mission of Hometown Hero Outdoors — providing outdoor experiences that foster camaraderie, mental wellness, and peer support for veterans, service members, and first responders.
Community Support Made It Possible
The trip was further supported by local community involvement. Meals for the group were generously provided by Scott Moore, adding to the welcoming and supportive atmosphere of the day.
Partnerships and community contributions like these play a vital role in ensuring that Hometown Hero Outdoors can continue delivering impactful experiences for those who have served.
Building Momentum in Texas
As Hometown Hero Outdoors continues to expand its reach, trips like this Lake Livingston fishing outing represent important steps in growing the mission across new regions.
With dedicated field staff, experienced guides, and strong community support, HHO remains committed to creating opportunities for veterans to reconnect, recharge, and build lasting relationships — one trip at a time.
