Team Minnesota recently hosted four members for a two-day guided snow goose hunting experience during the 3rd Annual Hometown Hero Outdoors Snow Goose Hunt, held in South Dakota.
The hunt took place out of a fully equipped 40-foot heated pit, guided by 605 Waterfowl Outfitters, providing veterans with a professional and comfortable late-season hunting environment.
Challenging Conditions on the Snow Goose Migration
Snow goose hunting is known for its unpredictability, and this year’s hunt proved no different. An abundance of adult birds in the area combined with limited wind during key hunting windows created challenging conditions for the group.
Despite the difficulty, participants remained focused and worked together to make the most of the opportunity — successfully harvesting birds each day and gaining valuable experience in late-season waterfowl hunting.
Camaraderie in the Blind
Hunting from the heated pit allowed for extended time in the field, giving participants the opportunity to share stories, build connections, and enjoy the slower moments between flocks.
These shared experiences are at the core of every Hometown Hero Outdoors event. While the hunt itself presents a challenge, the real impact often comes from the conversations, laughter, and mutual understanding built in those quiet moments.
Community Support Fuels the Mission
The success of this annual snow goose hunt was made possible through strong partnerships and community support.
Special thanks to:
- 605 Waterfowl Outfitters for providing expert guiding and accommodations
- Runnings – Huron, South Dakota for generously donating ammunition for the hunt
Support from partners like these ensures that veterans and service members can access high-quality outdoor experiences without barriers.
Continuing a Growing Tradition
Now in its third year, the Team Minnesota snow goose hunt continues to grow as a meaningful annual tradition. Each year brings new participants, new challenges, and new opportunities to strengthen the bonds that make these experiences impactful.
More Than a Hunt
Through experiences like this, Hometown Hero Outdoors continues its mission of supporting veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders through outdoor recreation.
These hunts provide:
- A chance to reset and recharge
- Opportunities for peer connection
- Exposure to new skills and experiences
- A supportive environment built on shared service
Even in challenging conditions, the outcome remains the same — connection, purpose, and lasting memories.
