Hometown Hero Outdoors has received a donation and has been asked by Gary Mogen’s wife to help honor his memory and legacy of service.
Gary passed away on January 30, 2026, after a long battle with Agent Orange-related illness and COPD.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era, completing four years of active duty service, including an 18-month tour in Okinawa. Like many veterans of that time, Gary often spoke about the challenges those who served during that era faced upon returning home. Despite those challenges, his pride in serving his country never faded.
Gary remained a lifelong advocate for veterans and those who served. In one of his final gestures of support, he donated his motorcycle to a veteran organization, continuing his commitment to helping others who wore the uniform.
Beyond his military service, Gary also dedicated time to serving his community. He earned a law enforcement degree and spent many years serving as a Special Deputy for Dakota County, continuing his lifelong commitment to public service.
Gary’s spouse reached out to Hometown Hero Outdoors as a way to recognize his life and create an opportunity for friends and loved ones to honor him by supporting a mission that helps other veterans, service members, and first responders.
At Hometown Hero Outdoors, we bring these individuals together through outdoor experiences that create space for connection, reflection, and healing. Whether it’s time spent on the water, in the woods, or around a campfire with others who understand the profession, these experiences can have a powerful impact.
In memory of Gary Mogen’s service and legacy, friends and family are invited to support this mission through a memorial contribution.
Each gift made in his name helps provide outdoor adventures and peer-support opportunities for those who have served our country and communities.
