A Day of Brotherhood, Birds, and the Outdoors
The fields around Minot, North Dakota came alive this fall as Hometown Hero Outdoors (HHO) joined forces with Pheasants for the Future and VFW Post 753 of Minot to host a veterans and first responders pheasant hunt. This special event brought together heroes from across the region for a day focused on connection, camaraderie, and healing through the outdoors.
By the end of the hunt, participants tallied 89 roosters, along with bonus sharptail grouse and Hungarian partridge—a testament to the skill, teamwork, and enthusiasm shared in every field.

Partnerships That Make a Difference
Events like this are possible thanks to an incredible network of supporters and partners who believe in HHO’s mission to provide outdoor adventures for military service members, veterans, and first responders.
A huge thank-you goes out to:
- Local landowners for generously opening their property and supporting our heroes’ time outdoors.
- Scheels of Minot, for providing ammunition and standing behind our mission.
- T’s Guns, for contributing exciting door prizes that kept spirits high.
- Volunteer dog handlers from the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA), whose dedication and well-trained dogs made every flush unforgettable.
Healing Through the Outdoors
For many participants, this day wasn’t just about hunting—it was about finding connection and purpose among peers who understand the challenges of service. HHO’s outdoor adventures continue to play a vital role in promoting mental health, community, and resilience for those who serve and protect.
From the laughter shared in the field to the stories exchanged back at the truck, this hunt was a reminder of why we do what we do: No one heals alone.
