The annual Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener is coming to the St. Croix River this year, with events centered in Stillwater—a community deeply connected to the outdoors and one we proudly call home.
For Hometown Hero Outdoors (HHO), this event represents more than just a day on the water. It’s an opportunity to connect with the local community, share our mission, and continue building support for the veterans, service members, and first responders we serve.
A Weekend of Connection and Purpose
Festivities begin Friday in downtown Stillwater, where the HHO team will be engaging with attendees through meet-and-greets and community conversations. It’s a chance to introduce more people to the impact of our work and the experiences we create for those who have served.
On Saturday morning, the focus shifts to the water for the main event—bringing together guests, anglers, and supporters for a day of fishing on the St. Croix River.
Boat Hosts Needed
To make this experience possible, we are currently seeking volunteer boat captains and hosts to join us on the water. This role is a key part of the event, providing not just transportation, but a meaningful and memorable experience for guests.
Saturday Schedule for Boat Hosts
- 7:30 AM – Boats staged at Mulberry Point Yacht Club / Stillwater Boat Club Rentals (near PD Pappy’s)
- Attend the downtown launch ceremony, then return with guests to depart and fish
- 12:00 PM – Shore lunch at Mulberry Point / Stillwater Boat Club Rentals
- 2:00 PM – All boats must be removed from courtesy docks
- Boats may continue fishing afterward from an alternate location if desired
Be Part of the Experience
This is a unique opportunity to represent the outdoor community while directly supporting those who have given so much in service to others. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or simply passionate about the mission, your involvement makes a difference.
